I’ve been writing for my blog on and off, part time for a while now. But it wasn’t until recently that I’ve really gotten more aware of making money from my blog. Over the years I’ve certainly had other blogs and sites that have produced income.
But Comfy Abode is a blog that has somewhat evolved into something that is more in align with who I am and what I do. It’s a combination of my desire to live well, be creative and authentic, while staying on a budget that fits our lifestyle.
You see, spending a lot of money and buying things does not necessarily create the life we seek. In fact, most times spending just fills our lives with bills and an excess of things we don’t know what to do with. So, what starts out as filling a desire, becomes overwhelm from the clutter of too much stuff and many times debt that we don’t know how we ended up in.
So, what does all this have to do with your journey to making money blogging?
It really goes back to creating a blog that’s uniquely you and what you’re all about. I want my blog to speak to those who want to live well within their means.
Your blog should be about showing your true self and sharing your exceptional gifts online. This is the first step. When you write about topics that resonate with your beliefs, it shares a certain part of yourself with your readers.
And if you can hit a nerve with readers who feel the same way, they will ultimately come back to see what other things you have to say. So, as you start to think about blog topics and ideas to write about, ask yourself this.
Am I sharing information that I am really passionate about, that tells readers a bit more about me?
It’s funny but when people see what you look like or take note of what you’re wearing, they may get an immediate impression of you. But writing for your audience is quite different, because you are crafting a message based on what you think and feel.
And in the world of blogging, you should be sharing things you love and are passionate about.
One of the books I’ve read that drives home this point more than any other is How To Blog For Profit: Without Selling Your Soul by Routh Soukup who blogs over at Living Well Spending Less. This book gets into writing content that reflects what you’re good at and what you are passionate about.
When your writing is passionate, it injects a bit of excitement into what you’re saying. It’s the difference between writing that’s flat and writing that makes your readers say, wow! Other times it may make your readers think of situations they have been in that are much like what you are describing.
Whether you are giving advice, making recommendations or offering a solution to a problem, if you are helping the reader, then you are winning them over at some level. Once you win someone over you gain trust and then the opportunity to sell them something becomes more likely.
I think it’s definitely rewarding to win people over as blog readers and followers.
It’s at the heart of what makes your blog a success, because without readers, you have nothing. You certainly cannot even begin to make money as a blogger if you don’t have readers.
So, if you are at a point where you have a blog, but not many readers, you are at one of the most fundamental steps on your journey to making money blogging. Take a step back and look at your blog.
Open up your Google Analytics and see if there are pages people are landing on and just bounce off of without reading. This can give you an indication of blog posts that are not resonating with your readers that you may want to revise with more intriguing content.
Or, perhaps your content is good, but there simply isn’t enough there to keep an ongoing audience coming back. With so many other blogs out there, the only way to gain an audience is to create content that people really want to read.
So, if you’re thinking that you need to get on social media more or that you need to promote more products, think about this. You need to create more amazing content that people want to read. That is your first step on the journey to making money blogging!
