There’s something about decorating for Christmas that just adds so much spirit to the home and brings joy. I have to confess that I love taking out my holiday decorations each year and setting them up throughout our home. And it doesn’t matter if I’m hosting the holiday at home or not. I put out Christmas decor to make the house cheerful and to get myself into the holiday mood.
If you’re like me, maybe you’ve had some of your decorations for years, or have had them in your family for decades. To me, those are the best, because they bring back memories. In the tradition of Christmas, I’ve always had this manger in my home. This manger came from my mom, who had it for decades. I wish I still had the original figurines, but most of those are gone, (with the exception of two angels) that are a bit worn and chipped.
But, recently I found this nativity figurine at Kohl’s and it fits perfectly in the manger. I also love that this was super affordable, and how it’s one piece, so I can’t really misplace the pieces when I store it away. Eventually, I will invest in a nicer set of nativity figurines, but until then, this makes me happy.
My other long-time favorite Christmas decorations are these holiday village pieces with figurine people. I’m not in any way a collector of Christmas village pieces. These just caught my eye about 15 years ago when I attended the Big E, (Eastern States Exposition) fair in West Springfield, Massachusetts. I purchased one house and a church that work well with many of my other decorations and I love them!
By collecting a few classic pieces over time, Christmas decorating becomes easier and more affordable. Just about everything on my mantle I’ve had for quite a while, like the metal and wire angel. But the faux tree in the burlap base, I added just a year ago and it works well anywhere in my home.
If you haven’t noticed, I’m a big fan of using greenery, pine cones and flower picks throughout my decor. I think if you want to create versatile looks every year, these items will give you the flexibility to style your home in many ways. They’re ideal to decorate a fireplace mantle or anywhere else you want to add a touch of Christmas.
Pictured above is my dining room centerpiece that wouldn’t be complete without these 30-year-old Christmas mice salt and pepper shakers. These have definitely become a traditional decoration that always gets put on display. Even hubby reminds me that we have to put these out every year.
Even though it’s just a peek at my holiday decorating, I’m happy I’ve gotten to share a few of my favorite Christmas things with you. Hopefully, down the road, I’ll get a chance to share more. Until then, enjoy this holiday season!
