We all know how busy it can be during the holiday season and there never seems to be enough time to get everything accomplished. That’s why getting organized for the holidays is so important.
Write it All Down
The first rule of thumb is that it’s never too early to start planning. To get started, grab some paper and a calendar to write everything down.
To get organized for the holidays, use a calendar to keep track of special holiday parties, get-togethers, appointments and days you have free time. Next, make a list of categories such as food, decorating, and gift giving. List as many categories as needed.
Then under each category, list the things that you want to get done for the holidays. For instance, under food, you might list tasks like buying canned goods, ordering a ham or decorating sugar cookies. Or if you bake a lot have a separate category just for baking.
When writing things down, refer to your calendar, to make sure you are planning your holiday chores around your free time. This will also reduce the stress of over-booking yourself.
Check Off What’s Done
As you start to accomplish things on your holiday to-do list, put a checkmark next to each item instead of crossing it out so that you can read what you wrote. A few weeks later, you might be adding other things to your list and you don’t want to add something that’s already done, like buying wrapping paper.
As you get closer to the holidays make some specific lists. For example, you may want to make a list of gifts that are wrapped or cookies that are baked and stored in your freezer. Making a list of holiday gifts and cards you need to send out of state will help you coordinate fewer trips to the post office.
Keep Track of Holiday Parties
As you’re getting organized for the holidays, don’t forget about parties and upcoming events. It helps to keep track of food and hostess gifts you will be bringing to holiday parties. Or if you are hosting a big party at home be sure to take inventory of your liquor and wines so that you can stock a full bar ahead of time.
Schedule Time for You
Lastly but most importantly, be sure to schedule time just for yourself to unwind, relax and recharge your energy so that you don’t over-work yourself.
Part of your personal time should include a few special treats like getting your hair and nails done. Taking care of yourself during the busy holiday season is important so that you look and feel good.
With just a little planning, getting organized for the holidays will help you accomplish everything you need to do with less stress while enjoying yourself more!
